Baggage and assistance

Before you fly, make sure you know how many bags you can take and the maximum weight and size allowances. Air New Zealand has all the details here

Carry-on bags

Economy fares get one carry-on bag plus one small item like a handbag or laptop. Other fares allow two bags plus one small item.

Economy carry-on can weigh up to 7kg, and the total linear dimensions (width, height plus depth) of your carry-on bag can be up to 118cm.

Checked-in baggage

Use the Air New Zealand baggage allowance calculator to work out how much you can pack for your trip.

Excess luggage

If you have more bags than your fare allows, have a chat with the check-in staff about your options.

Lost bags

If your bag is mislaid somewhere during your trip, please call Air New Zealand on 0800 224 872 or email baggageservices.gis@airnz.co.nz to report the issue.

Oversized items

For more information on oversized items, such as sporting equipment and bikes, and musical instruments, please call Air New Zealand Cargo on 0800 747 777 or see the Air New Zealand website.

Travelling with pets

Cats, dogs and small caged birds can travel as checked-in baggage on all domestic Air New Zealand flights, as long as they are in a suitable carrier.
Here’s everything you need to know.

If an animal is flying without you, see Air New Zealand’s national cargo services page
